The joy of dressing is an art
The earliest knotted rug, the Pazyryk carpet, was discovered in 1960 in an ice-filled tomb in Outer Mongolia. Woven around 464 B.C., this rug of unknown origin measuring approximately 5 by 6 feet, has all the characteristics of a modern Persian or Anatolian rug with a pile and Ghiordes knot.
Industrialist/retailer Marshall Field had a traditional Axminster weaving loom modified to create what no one else had ever created — a machine-made rug woven through the back, just like a handmade Oriental, featuring intricate designs and virtually unlimited color and variety.
